The Brightness-Contrast effect in Alight Motion is a versatile tool for adjusting the overall lightness and contrast of a layer. It’s perfect for fine tuning visuals, correcting lighting, or creating dramatic transitions.
Key Properties Brightness-Contrast

1. Brightness
- Adjusts the lightness of the layer.
- Range: -100% to +100%
- Default Value: 0%
- Positive values make the layer brighter.
- Negative values darken the layer.
- At +100%, the layer turns pure white, while -100% makes it pure black (if no contrast adjustments are applied).
2. Contrast
- Controls the separation of light and dark colors.
- Range: -100% to +300%
- Default Value: 0%
- Positive values increase contrast, making light areas lighter and dark areas darker.
- Negative values reduce contrast, blending light and dark tones toward gray.
How to Use
- Apply to Images and Videos:
Best for correcting brightness and contrast in photo or video layers. - Subtle Adjustments:
Make slight tweaks for natural results. Extreme values may cause clipping or loss of color detail. - Animate for Transitions:
Combine Brightness–Contrast animation to create fade to black or fade to white effects.
Creative Use Cases
- Correct Overexposed or Underexposed Layers
- Adjust Brightness to fix lighting issues.
- Fine tune Contrast for more detailed and dynamic visuals.
- Dramatic Transitions
- Animate brightness to fade smoothly to black or white.
- Pair with other effects for cinematic transitions.
- Grayscale Maps
Use the effect to refine grayscale layers before applying effects like Displacement Maps or Bump Map for a polished look.
